Etching on Fabriano - 24cm x 30cm - Miekie Lourens was born in 1968 and studied art education at the University of Pretoria. She has traveled extensively, refining her practice through the study of various techniques in China and Taiwan.
A respected art teacher, artist, and gallerist, Miekie is well known across South Africa and has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions. She has also achieved a notable presence in auction sales. Specializing in printmaking, she favors etching as her preferred medium.
Since 2021, Miekie has focused predominantly on etchings created with indigo blue ink—a poetic homage to the blue skies of South Africa, her mother’s cherished blue-and-white kitchen, and her deep, abiding love of the ocean.
